Flowing through the heart of New South Wales, the Hawkesbury River — known to the Traditional Custodians, the Dharug and Darkinjung peoples, as Dyarubbin — holds deep cultural and spiritual significance. Framed by sandstone cliffs and native bushland, it’s one of Australia’s most scenic waterways.
Just 45 minutes north of Sydney, the Hawkesbury offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by national parks and charming riverside communities such as Brooklyn, Dangar Island, and Bar Point. The landscape has much to offer; explore all the local adventures and activities below!
Lunch on the River
Looking for a long lunch or special celebration? Take a short boat ride to Peat’s Bite, a renowned riverside restaurant offering an unforgettable dining experience.
Explore the Hawkesbury by kayak, winding through calm waters lined with mangroves and native orchids. You might even spot a hidden WWI shipwreck along the way. Two single kayaks and one double are available for guests to enjoy during their stay.

Feast On Oysters
Just a short boat ride from Dyarubbin House, the Hawkesbury River Oyster Shed serves up fresh local seafood. You can join a guided tour of the Oyster Farm or nearby Brooklyn Bay Pearl Farm for a taste of the region’s coastal culture.
Local Hikes
Hike around Bar Point to experience grand views of Berowa Waters and beyond. There are numerous local walking tracks for you to stretch your legs and enjoy the views.
Fishing
Love to fish? Cast a line from our private pier and see what you can catch. While fishing rods aren’t provided, guests are welcome to bring their own and enjoy a peaceful session by the river.
Waterfall Hunting
Bar Point has some amazing waterfalls hidden amongst the trees. Follow the walking Track behind Dyarubbin House, and you might just stumble upon some of the natural falls. If walking isn’t your thing, take a Kayak and discover the waterfalls from the water!
Stargazing
Spend your evenings watching the sunset over the river, then stay into the night as the stars emerge. Dyarubbin House is the perfect spot for stargazing and admiring the nightsky.

Cold weather? Don’t fret, we’ve got both an outdoor and indoor fireplace to keep you warm. Grab a book, turn on a movie and cosy up by the fireside.
